The Z11 Black Silk White pendant has a handcrafted black bamboo frame sheathed in hand-woven white silk-cashmere that leaves the upper and lower portions of the fixture uncovered, the weave of this particular fixture lending it an almost tribal feel. The fabric, sourced from Afghanistan from a company that employs local women to knit shawls, is tied to the frame by hand, the textural quality of the knitted shade filtering the emitted light to cast dreamy patterns on surrounding surfaces. Ay Illuminate’s design team—Ay Lin Heinen and Nelson Sepulveda—work with artisans to dream up these soulful creations. The fixtures are “handmade” in the truest sense of the word so longer lead-times may apply and slight variations in the profiles of each pendant may exist.
